In 1929, at the age of five, Hideko Takamine made her film debut. An extraordinary actress, she starred in the works of many renowned directors over a remarkable half-century, from the silent film era to the post-war golden age of cinema, appearing in nearly 400 films. She holds the record for the most domestic and international film awards in Japanese cinema.
This exhibition features a collection of works by the eight master photographers who left significant marks on the history of Japanese photography, all capturing the actress who has always been in front of the camera. Each talented photographer presents their unique perspective on Takamine, revealing distinctly different poses and expressions.
The photographs convey the commitment of both the photographer and the subject, capturing the intense moments of the human connection through the lens. Alongside the visuals, essays by Takamine, known as an essayist, and the photographers will also be displayed, allowing viewers to experience the clash of sensibilities and souls on the film set.
